Flies

Any advice for getting rid of flies?

Had rats about a month ago, but they seem to be gone and no smells. Yesterday and today, lots of flies in the hallway!

Did you poison the rats? Could be corpses hiding away somewhere... then maggots, then flies...

What do the flies look like? Could possibly be cluster flies, which can be a lasting problem. Try looking them up on the internet, or provide a description.

Yes, rats were poisoned. One found dead, but that was about a month ago and any smells were long gone.

Flies look normal. Dark, quiet big. Swatted about 10 yesterday night, but there was at least another 15 there this morning.

Spray, zap, other? Or get pest control involved.

Look up cluster flies... is that them?

Particularly the way the group.... They also bumble slowly about "stupidly" and fall to the ground like a falling thing... poor description, but you might recognise it if you have them...

Sounds like they laid eggs in the corpse of a rat, which have just gone through their lifecycle and hatched.

If that what they are, once they're gone, you shouldn't have any more trouble.

We had a similar problem when a squirrel came down our chimney then got stuck behind the fire trying to get back up and died there. Some time afterwards we had a plague of flies.

It was only when we replaced the fireplace we found the very desiccated corpse of the squirrel.

The flies stopped after a few weeks.

Hard to tell. I'll have a look tonight.
They weren't slow. Hard to swat.
