Emoze supports
    • Microsoft Mobile 2002, 2003, 5.0
    • Symbian Series 60
    • Symbian UIQ
    • Microsoft Smartphone
I am not too sure which Symbian version windows uses, but I am 100% certain it is one of the above.

Just make sure the Nokia phone you choose has ability to receive Push Email.

If my memory serves me, after installing software, somewhere along the lines you are asked to input phone and service provider from a drop down menu system.

I have used emoze and found it quite a drain on battery life. I use T-Mobile who only charge £5.00 per month extra for push email without battery life issues. However the phone I am using does not have a fantastic battery life in the first place, so the extra drain may or may not be an issue for you.

Might need to get a new phone though

This sounds really interesting. I assume you still have to pay data charges, but I guess this would be pretty small if you're only viewing text?

I have a smartphone so definitely assume I can do this, will look into it.

Don't assume that mobile data is cheap, it's the latest rip-off that the mobile industry has latched onto. i.e. T-Mobile currently charge 0.73p per Kb capped at £1 per day, however from September 29 they will simplify this charge to £1 per day, even if you only check your e-mail.

I know I know. I'm with Vodafone and certainly think their prices are a complete rip, similar to T-mobiles. £1 per day (for up to 15 megs) or the equivalent of about 5p per page. A potential of £365 a year (plus more if you downloaded more than 15 megs, but unless I was downloading attachements/songs or something it wouldnt really happen), can get 8 meg broadband at home cheaper than that!

Vodafone offer a service called Mymail to all it's customers, which is 50p per month for unlimited notifications and no additional data charges, (or free if you have the monthly contract data bundle). If you choose to download the message or send 1, there is a charge of 12p per message.

More information is available on the Mymail section on the Vodafone website

I use o2 alerts - 10p per text. If you're not on O2 then this isn't for you but I assume all other providers offer a similar service.

Sign up via O2's website with your mobile number etc. Then simply use Outlook / Gmail or whatever to create a rule to forward all/specified incoming mail to you@o2.co.uk (replace with email address you've just set up) and you'll get a text whenever emails come through. The text contains maybe the first 10-15 words of the email and the senders name & email address so very helpful when you're not near a PC!
