Tips for getting new window/door fitted.

Hi,

I am looking to get an old wooden window replaced in our house. I am also looking to get an old wooden sliding door replaced.

The door is kind of an external door. It connects the kitchen to some old grotty conservatory/utility room area. This conservatory/utility room area is freezing and the roof is not a proper roof, but some cheap plastic covering. I want to replace the sliding door with an external door, to properly seal off the house.

Anyway, at the moment I am looking for any helpful tips when looking for windows and doors. I know to look for the energy efficiency of the window/door etc, but is there any thing else to look out for?

How much would you expect to pay for the window? It is 74x92cm. How about the door? The current aperture is quite narrow, 71x199cm, so I think some brick work will need to be done.

Thanks in advance
