total post count

kronenbourg
not just this site but any sites with forums
if they didnt have the total number of posts and thanked would you post less
i find that some people treat it as a game who can get the most posts by just sitting on the sites and posting an answer to every question
the worst is trip advisor some people are posting 100 times a day and 99% is garbage

On this site, the higher the post count the more I trust any advice given, especially in Techie Stuff. People gain reputations which they like to maintain and enhance.0

that's not a good thing to go by. Some people post total garbage or, more likely, take part in a lot of the forum games or chat threads. Yet people who post less frequently may be an expert in their field.
A great example is over on another forum I use. There are some people there with thousands of posts who hardly post anything useful, yet those who have only a few hundred may post gems of information. that forum however has the rep feature enabled, so you can see someone's rep. As an example I have higher rep power at only ~150 posts than some people who do that have posts in the thousands. The rep feature is something that is added to (or indeed deducted from) BY other members, so it's really the only surefire way of knowing.
I think this forum should have some kind of rep feature alongside, or possibly instead of the thanks feature, for certain boards outside the off topic area. Then you instantly know who actually talks sense and who is just a crackpot looking to stir up trouble - of which there always seem to be some doing a rota at the credit card forum!Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
The forum that makes a complete mockery of thanked posts is 'Old Time Moneysaving'.
Someone just posts 'Good morning' and they get 30 'Thanks'. Someone replies and passes a comment on the weather and they get 30!0 -
Good morning!
Lovely weather today.0 -
I don't look at the postcount of the person that posted, I read the post and if it makes sense in relation to the thread then I take it in, if not then I ignore it.
I have always stated that if you are doing it for the postcount then you are doing it for the wrong reason.0
