Credit Reference item

I am new on this forum so be gentle with me.
I am trying to improve my credit references but on getting the details of my account from one of the agencies have two major problems.
I got into some financial difficulties around 2005 and paid some accounts but had to default on a few others. I have not contacted or paid anything on these accounts since. I have not applied for any credit or checked my credit ability since either.
I now find that a major bank seems to have me as defaulting not in 2005 (when I did) but in 2011 which of course means that it will not clear my account until 2017 instead of being already cleared. My question is can they do that? If so say if I had several accounts with them then they could file one every six years so I would virtually never be clear and not able to make a new start.
The other problem is similar in that my file shows a default in 2012 on a credit card issued in 2001 by a major debt collection agency. I don't know if I am allowed to say their name on here but it begins with L.
I have never ever been in contact with them and have no idea at all what the credit card is. I can only assume they have bought it but am not sure and they are now saying they issued it. I don't want to contact them because it could open a whole can of worms.
My question is are Debt Management companies allowed to do this and again as with my earlier mentioned problem can they just file a default so long after any default has been made (I am assuming it may have been something pre 2005.
Any help or advice anyone can give would be gratefully received. I am anxious to make a new start and it doesn't appear to be possible for many years yet.

Lowells the Leeds losers no doubt.
No they can't do that. The default date has to be accurate. Complain and threaten to take then to the Information Commissioner (ICO) and Financial Ombudsman.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

Thanks Rizla, yes of course you are right it is Lowell
Can anyone tell me if they have had the same thing happen to them where it was said that a credit card had been issued by them and that it had been defaulted, even though there is no such card and it looks as though they have purchased the rights of a legitimate issuer ?
Even more, any default must have happened years before they are saying it happened.
They are blocking my credit references with something that if it happened was many years ago not recently as they say. I could ask them to remove the item but they are unlikely to do that and anyway they may then try and pursue me even though if it does exist it should be covered by time limitations.
Many thanks0 -
Sorry to jump in ...
Lowell has searched my Experian credit file once or twice a month for the last 2 years,
ive asked Experian about this and they say its a (soft) search that other creditors will never see !!!
My question is WHY are they doing this and getting away with ruining peoples Credit Files and lives in that respect:mad:

These searches won't be ruining your credit file, or affecting your ability to get credit.
As to why - sounds like they think you are a debtor, perhaps you have the same name as someone they are trying to track (if you don't owe them any money).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
