won't give people bad advice just because you don't like me

Well done Clapton for giving the OP some excellent advice. Hopefully they will calm down and take on board some of the points you have made.

Others of course may think it makes perfect sense to have debts on a store card at probably 20%+ APR whilst earning 2% on your savings.

the fact you have friends that regularly only pay the minimum on CC is another sad reflection on our society and is no model to emulate

I'd say the same about Clapton and Hackney too!

Btw your advice is blunt however I can tell that you mean well!
  • I have not said anything regarding the advise given to me, what I did not like was the way the advise was given to me, after all there are ways of saying things to people. I actually appreciated the advise regarding USA companies not always refunding holds on CC's and the like. I do not plan to go to the USA without a CC as you need one for a whole host of reasons car hire, hotel room holds and emergency medical costs being the main ones! In fact I'm sure many people would say I was being 'finically incompetent' going there without one!

I feel like you think I'm an 18 year old girl with no experience of money when in actual fact I'm a 27 year old woman who previously worked at a bank for 3 years and has a good idea of how credit cards work, hence why I'd never go down the route of an aqua card for example, I know the interest rates. I was asking for advise and did not think I'd have to justify myself to people who don't know me or my circumstances. So excuse me for defending myself.

Thanks for the constructive advise people have given me though!

the interest rates are irrelevant if you pay the card off each month.

But then that goes against the proper way to use a credit card, which is to spend upto the maximum limit then only pay back the minimum each month
