Gym Direct Debit - Can I be that lucky?

Frankly, noone cares.0

Frankly, dry your eyes and pay what you owe. Personally I wouldn't want to annoy a gym full of boxers, but maybe you're a bit handy? :-D0

The gym is wrong to tell you that you can't cancel at all in the first 12 months. However you would be liable for reasonable costs they incurred that couldnt be mitigated (by finding another customer for example).
There are certain other things they cant do but they dont seem to be relevant at the moment.
Perhaps ask the gym if you can freeze your account under the circumstances for 6 months or a year until your finances improve? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
see if you can pay the remaining £120 off over 12 months, a tenner a month would be reasonable and forfeit using the club?0

Thank you guys. I did try to speak to the gym owner and ask him, however he was of no help and actually think he lied. Nothing I can do about it anyway.
This is what he said:
"You are currently within your 12 month contract period so unfortunately dfc (this is the direct debit company) will not allow you to cancel within this time period."
Could be Debit Finance Collections will front the money to the gym, so your debt is with them (the gym already having been paid in full for the year) - that's quite common. You need to find out for sure, and come to a deal with them. Gyms are pretty robust about enforcing through the courts generally, so don't just bury your head or you'll heap up a load of extra costs as well.0 -
OP, I think you should be asking over here:

There are loads of pay as you go gyms out there these days. Sounds like you are going to have to pay what you owe but once you are out of the contract maybe you should try something more flexible next time. Check out the cheap gym deals forum, just found loads of good ideas in there.0
