insurance claim
A friend of mine wrote there car off on the 3rd of Jan the insurance have been it touch and have agreed it is a total loss,it has been removed from the recovery companys storage yard.
no one else was involved he spun on water clipped the verge and rolled the car the police attended he was breathalysed and that was zero.
He has returned the keys log book and finance information to the insurance.
As the car was only 5 months old he should get a new car but how long will this take should he ring the insurance or just wait.
thanks

Better keep on at them as they love to 'just wait' and keep their money for longer. Your mate is entitled to know whats happening and when he can expect payment. If you don't ask you won't get.0

It's probably not a case of that.
By the sounds of it the friends car is almost brand new, which means the decent Insurers will replace it with a brand spanking new equivalent model.
Obviously that's not something that can be done over night.
Jonathon, get your friend to ring his Insurers, tell him to be really polite and ask the persons name at the start of the call and to keep using their name during the call (It creates an affinity and they tend to go the extra mile to help). Ask them how the process normally works, how long they think it will take and which dealer the Insurer normally uses.
If you know the dealers name you can give them a ring to see how long the waiting list which gives you a rough idea.0 -
Thanks I will get him to ring his insurer tomorrow0

Hopefully it will go without incident. Might be worth double checking the T's & C's to ensure he will get like for like and not 'market value'.
As said though, a decent insurer shouldn't have a problem replacing the car but he might have to wait a while if he had a very specific spec or model/colour etcWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Did he have GAP insurance?0

Did he have GAP insurance?
I nearly asked the same question. Hopefully the car will be like for like or the cheque he gets will not only be short of a new car but also rather short of what is owed to the finance company (unless he has GAP of course)
I'm hoping the OP's pal isn't with one of the more dubious companies. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
yes he has gap, the car was brought new from a well known dealer and is a common car.0
