By the way, FreddieFinney - their number is 0843 497 0000 - good luck.
Their number is now giving a recorded message saying it isn't available, I've now emailed twice and am still waiting for a reply :mad:Although I'm flippin' fuming with myself for falling for it, I sort of feel better for reading that I'm not alone...but despite losing £500 will my tax return actually be submitted????0 -

I feel such a fool but it's the first site to come up on google and when you're in a rush it's so easy to click immediately on submit tax return. I just thought HMRC had updated their website
I thought exactly the same as you and now I see so many others. I too thought HMRC had updated their website, was in a rush and thought they were asking for card details incase I owed money and they'd debit it. I'm usually pretty switched on so just goes to show how clever these guys are! :mad:0 -
As with many other writers here I have fallen victim to this unscrupulous mob as well. I too am normally very careful as well and feel rather foolish for being duped out of £650 pounds. I have been provided with the following information by Jeff Prestidge from the Mail on Sunday. I have followed this advice and in addition I have written to my MP. Right or wrong, clear on unclear, stupid or not stupid this site is utterly misleading and does not provide any service apart from ripping people off. I strongly suggest you all take the time to following this advice, the more that do the better chance this despicable site is removed. I cannot post links as the site will not allow this so hopefully you can all make some sense of what I have posted. Good luck to you all!
1. Write to Who4 – the company behind taxreturngateway.com – requesting a refund. Don’t take no for an answer. If you persist, it will offer a 50 per cent refund, followed by a 75 per cent refund. In some cases it has refunded 100 per cent.

This particular company, as well as the 'charge-for a free government service' general websites, were on Radio 4's Your and Yours programme this lunchtime - hopefully this is the podcast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03qfzgj
David Davis was interviewed, who believes they should be stopped, and although they technically don't break any laws, google can stop the ads apparently.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
I cant believe I have been caught out by the tax gateway web site, the tune of £500.
I see the posts saying how could you not know it wasnt an official HMRC site but as I have searched for information, there are suggestions the site has changed froom its original format.
I have to ask , surly the HMRC have a duty of care to at least warn people to check the site they are on and not part with money as it isnt a requirement. Goodness knows there has been enough TV and radio advertising telling you to get it done.
The younger generation probably can pick up on web site differences quickly and it my be obvious. For those of us struggling with both tax returns and unfamiliar on line working this site looked 100% geniune.
Has anyone been successful at getting the money returned? My tax return was wrong which is how I picked up on this so in effect they have not fulfilled the contract I supposedly have with them.
I dont know where to start,any advice welcome0 -
Unable to accept any further applications ...at this time.
They then advise that you can 'still submit your return directly and without assistance at the HMRC official website'
Some cheek!!!

Even now the web site is down there is still a warning

The site has nothing to do with HMRC, that is the whole point- so how can they post a warning on a third party site?
Anyway, there are warnings, so why would anyone read another one when they have already ignored one.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
