We used something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Self-Adhesive-various-including-padding-Outfitting/dp/B002GUB9R0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_diy_8 - although I thought the stuff we had was on a roll about 5cm wide.

I have been to B&Q today but they do not sell the sheets separately.

You will most likely have to cut something to fit, was thinking of polystyrene sheets type stuff. Or possibly cork sheets, dunno if that would work though, but cheap enough to try.

Good idea, but would either of those break down over time?

Our cistern is the same, but I have ignored it because I didn't think there was anything that could be done.

May try this - i suspect its not too difficult once its emptied of its "gubbins" and dry inside.

Mine does same and has for years but now its at the front of my mind I may try cork, see how that goes.
Will try this weekend and hopefully update in a few weeks
