Hi folks,
To extend the wi fi signal in house I have bought this single tplink wi fi extender from Argos,
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1286627.htm
to cover the weaker wi fi signal in upstairs bedroom. My daughter who has an older iphone likes to facetime and she says it keeps cutting out, maybe something to do with talktalk's fibre medium upload of only max 1.8mbps, I am not sure.
Anyways,
She says that the tp link does improve the signal but still not great at times I am wondering if buying better powerline extenders would be a better idea.
1 Am in right in thinking that if I buy a certain kind (cant think of name but where wi fi signal travels down electric cable) I can hook one up near the router and connect it to router with Ethernet, then just plug the receiver in upstairs and we are good to go?
2 as sockets are minimal upstairs and downstairs is it ok just to hook these into surge protectors plug extension?
3 If above are suitable for me in your opinion can you recommend a brand that is not too expensive but still good?
many thanks for all your advice and help.

This is what you want:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolo-dLAN-500-Wi-Fi-Starter/dp/B00C5IA4TW/ref=sr_1_6/279-3570483-0105725?ie=UTF8&qid=1390213192&sr=8-6&keywords=dlan+500
You can get other ones, not sure if they are cheaper.
One end plugs in beside your router and is connected by a cable to the router.
The other end plugs in where you need the signal.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
This may sound daft, but have you checked to see if the iPhone is connecting to the TP link wifi network, or the weaker main wifi?0

If that is just a wireless repeater which it seems to be (the Argos specs are pretty useless and I don't see a model number to check) don't forget it needs to pick up the main signal itself so it shouldn't be put in the dead spot but somewhere near it where there is a signal to repeat.0

Just remember power line thingy bobs work best if they are both plugged into the same ring main, if the upstairs sockets are on a different ring main than the socket you will use next to the router it may not improve matters
If you don't find joy in the snow,
remember you'll have less joy in your life
...but still have the same amount of snow!0
