EDF final bill - credit or debit?

I've recently left EDF and have an email from them saying:
Your account
balance is

£17.04
As you pay by Direct Debit no action is required. Please see your bill for details of when we will collect this payment.
I'm assuming this is a debit, as they mention collecting payment, but this could be a standard wording. They haven't taken this amount but I haven't cancelled the DD yet. They last took a payment in November, the normal amount.
How long do I have to leave it before I can cancel the DD, or is it possible that they owe me money? When I last logged in online all the bill information had disappeared.

If it's credit, it normally shows as CR after the amount.
ie
£17.04 CR0 -
My final bill said:
£-133.95
in Credit0 -
I thought it was more likely to be debit than credit, based on us cancelling in winter as well. I'll leave the DD a couple more months to give them chance to take the payment, then I'm sure they can't complain if we cancel it!0
