Definition of main driver

Do all motor insurers have the same definition of main driver: the one who makes the most journeys rather than the one who drives the most miles (perhaps through making fewer, longer trips)?

There is no universal definition. Probably the one who does the highest mileage. Best to read definitions etc for the insurer you choose.0

There is certainly not a universal definition. I am not even sure all insurers have their own definition in which case it would come down to common usage and arguably could be most trips, most miles or most time0

Hi faddy
The AA offer a definition of what they mean by 'main driver':The main driver is the person who is in charge of the vehicle most often, which means they are the person who makes the most journeys as the car's driver.

So that's the definition I work to - even though I'm not insured through the AA.
Strangely, when I phoned my own insurance co to ask for a definition of 'main driver', they got very aggressive and said "Come on - you know whether or not you're the main driver" and refused to offer any definition.
Similarly, a friend said her insurance co treated her like a criminal just for asking the question.0 -
I would assume the person that uses it to commute or shopping or other work daily, If there was any doubt then i would be asking the question before taking out the policy and record the phone call.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
