Bank account when applying for a CC

Options
Hi, I'm going to apply for a credit card soon. I went part-way through an application and it asked me for my main bank account. The CC is with Halifax but I usually put FD as my main bank account as it's the oldest. Would it be better to put down my Halifax account as the CC is with Halifax, or would it be better to put FD as then the information matches other applications I've made? I know it's good to be consistent in credit applications.

By the way there is only one month difference between my FD and Halifax account in terms of how long I've held the account. Obviously if I'd had the FD account for 10 years and the Halifax one for a few months it'd be better to put FD.

Thanks :)

  • Some CC application systems are remarkably inconsistent. For example, in October a fraudster took my name (not my full name) and address and went to Barclaycard's website and got a new account opened in my name with absolutely no other correct information. Incorrect dob, false telephone nyumbers, false employment details -the lot. They declared a Halifax sortcode and account number as their main account. That account belonged to another unfortunate VictimOfImpersonation whose name was totally different to mine.

The new card and PIN were intercepted and the card maxed out wiuthin days. No one batted an eyelid.

I discovered something wasn't right when I received notification of an overlimit charge and I didn't recognise the account number. I hasten to add that I had been a Barclays and Barclaycard company for decades before they issued this fraudulent new account so inconsistently shall we say :(

I also will add that they searched all 3 CRAs at the time using the inconsistent data and were given the all clear.

So take what you will from that. I must say that of all the organisations involved, Halifax have been the most perturbed by the story which barely involves them except that their unfortunate current account customer's details had obviously got into the hands of the fraudsters. It's been over a month since I complained to Barclaycard but they still haven't told me what went wrong.

You should put the halifax account, but you are unlikely to be accepted unless you actually use it i.e. a regular credit, and use of the debit card or direct debits

If you apply when signed in to halifax online banking they may not even credit search you as they already know whether they want to give you a CC or not
