Alternative to iphone 5 charging cable??? That works pls

Hiya,

I've had my iphone 5 for around 4 months now and I'm sick to death of the cables lasting two minutes! I've had four genuine and countless cheapie ones and they either stop working or aren't supported. Does anyone know of a generic cable that lasts and is supported please? £15 a pop from apple, total waste of money.
Thank you :)

  • What are you doing to them???!!!!

But anyway, Belkin have always been good to me, but they aren't much cheaper than Apple.
  • Absolutely nothing that's the thing. I charge the phone on my bedside table and it doesn't get touched until the morning. I have just read on the apple store review of the cables I'm not the only one having these problems.

Thank you will have a look for one now

Buy the micro usb to lightning adapter, then you can just use any micro SD cables.

There is a battery case that takes micro usb as well but that's a bit more expensive.

Personally I've never had any problems with my lightning cable.
  • Thank you robtang will look into that too

Do you pull the cable itself when you remove it from your phone, or do you grab the actual plug?

If you yank the cable, it won't last 5 minutes.

If you yank the plug, it should last ages.

I've seen a lot of complaints on Facebook (and from the mrs) about them not lasting 5 minutes but I had one for a whole year with my iPhone 5 with no issues. My iPad charger has lasted me about 2 and a half years.
    What will your verse be?

Join the rest of the world in using micro USB (there's an adapter I think) and you can have your choice of cables and chargers for a few quid. Got a nice one with 1A plus 2x500mA sockets for £3 the other day, top quality, very convenient. You could also use some of the great portable/slimline travel USB chargers, and have access to that much wider range.
  • I pull the white plug section as I know it can break the charger pulling the cable itself. I maybe did that with the first one but it was my eldest who said id break it that way, so I've been careful since
  • Thanks paddyrg I've just been checking them out on the apple store

I guess pulling the wire not the plug must be the cause - my kids, particularly one of them has gone through several cables. Finding ones that work for long on ios7 seems to be a bit of pot luck though.

If anyone knows of an ios7 one at a reasonable price, please let me know! I can't bring myself to pay £15 for the Apple one, when there are so many bad reviews on their site about them. Surely the quality has gone down - we had no problems with the older type ones on the iphone 3's we had?

Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never pulled mine out from the plug, I use the same cable for my ipad mini as well
