Compaq presario screen gone strange?

Hi all

I have an old compaq presario laptop and the screen has gone really strange. It looks like it has split into two (not equal halves) and the icons are so small you cannot read them? Any ideas if this would be a graphics problem or something to do with a virus/settings. I do have a photo of the screen but don't know how to put it on here.

Thanks.

Probably not the answer - but it's quick:

Try pressing Ctrl+0 (zero) to restore the zoom to default, just in case it's a zoom problem.

    EDIT

To clarify - that means Ctrl and zero keys together.

Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)
  • Thanks, I tried that but nothing happened.

I tried powering on and pressing escape to get the boot menu and the font was normal size, although the screen was still split? I'm presuming this may mean a graphics issue. I was hoping it would be something I could sort without having to take to a shop but I do 't think it is :(

    Thanks for replies :)

Well you could always try uninstalling the VGA adaptor by going to 'Device Manager' (as Administrator), finding the VGA adaptor in the list and uninstalling it by right-clicking.

    Then restart your computer.

The VGA adaptor will reinstall itself afresh automatically as the computer restarts.

It won't do any harm and may just fix it if the problem is corrupted VGA drivers.

    Worth a try anyway.

(Re the zoom thing- I presume it WAS on default zoom already as nothing happened.)
