Help to choose new laptop/tablet

Hi guys, too much choice out there for a relative luddite and really need your help.
I've had a Dell Inspiron laptop for about 3 years and it's worked fine but (a) the battery's now dead and I have to have it plugged it all the time and (b) loading Internet pages now taken an age so I guess it's time to move on and buy a new one.
Went up to PC World today and had a look at Tesco online but my head is sore with choice.
Basically all I use a computer for is (1) Surfing the net (2) occasionally streaming films (3) emails and (4) as a word processor.
Can anyone whittle it down to what I should be looking for. I'm hoping to get one for around £300-£350 but will pay more if I need to.
Thanks.

I'd do a clean up of the computer and buy it a new battery for £80 or so. And that's an official battery. If you're willing to take a 'risk' with a copy, you can get them for less. Check Ebay.
Computers don't slow down over time - well, the hardware doesn't. It's just that the software gets bloated.
There is a sticky guide in this section on how to clean up your computer. Give it a go, and you might get a couple of years yet out of your laptop. Any basic computer should meet your needs, including your current one.0 -

For standard laptop, you could after something with intel i3.
But I do agree battery is easily replacable0 -
agree you should try a clean-up and remove software you don't need / use / got on there by accident. you could post a hijackthis log and closed will pop along with some cleanup adviceFriendly greeting!0

backup, factory restore, new battery (if you really need to use it on battery), is £300 cheaper.
loading internet pages slowly is nothing to do with the age of it, a 3 year old machine should have another decade of life left in it.!!
