Vodafone Repayment plan serious issues!

Hi Everyone,

My partner and I have found out that we are expecting our first baby.

We have sat down and seriously looked at our finances and are trying to make cuts where safe and possible.

I have decided to cancel my vodafone account and setup a repayment plan with them.

I called vodafone today and they said they will only accept a 6 month payment plan, so I asked what my total for my account would be and it came to £1,432 and they said they would only accept £238 per month for the next six month, which is double what I actually pay now.

I explained my situation and have been a loyal customer to vodafone for a long time and have never missed a payment bar once when natwest bank had big problems which obviously was not my fault.

I explained the situation to them and had absolutely no compassion or humanity from them, if anything the guy I spoke to was very rude and frankly I am disgusted at the way they treat their loyal customers when they need help!

Looks like my only option is to stop paying and wait for it to be handed over to a DCA and sort it out with them which is something I'd rather not do, as they'll add their own fees on top and we'll end up paying far more than I owe already! Though in my experience they'd probably be a lot more helpful and caring than Vodafone are being.

We have managed to setup other repayment plans with other companies and not had one single problem, if anything they've been very helpful and kind to us. Why is it that Vodafone are being so heartless about the situation, when I've been a good customer to them for years?

What would you recommend?

Many Thanks.

What is the reason for you owing them so much?

Asking as it may have bearing on why they are acting this way?

So you are cancelling four contracts?

How long would those contracts have ran for? More than 6 months?

Are you current in your payments on them?

Yes I would be cancelling all of them and no I have never missed a payment next payment is due on 30th of this month.

2 of them have a few months left but the 2 main ones have about a year or more left

Well that's clearly why the '6 months pay off' is more than your current payments.

They want all the money that you are contracted to pay them, but over a shorter period, so payments are higher.

Cancelling four contracts is probably not in their eyes a good customer. You seem to be asking to pay less and get out of your contracts.

Do any of these contracts include handsets?

You pay £116 a month currently and only have 12 months to run on two numbers after April/May?? Surely then you are better off to carry on paying current charges, then your monthly repayment will drop for just the two phones.

Just asking why you have 4 numbers?

  • If your baby isn't due for a while could you manage to pay these contracts off by paying what they are asking? Also, if you have handsets you could sell them and put the money towards what you owe.
  • 1 for personal 1 for business 1 for my partner and 1 being stupid to get a new handset.

yes a couple of them have handsets on them.

I had a friend that went through a debt management plan regarding having loads of contracts and wasn't asked to give any of the phones back

You can't expect them to let you pay less AND keep the handsets. Or do either actually...

Otherwise everyone would take out a new contract and say no actually will you accept less money all I'll keep the phones.

A DMP means you default, affect your credit rating and it doesn't necessarily mean you pay less.
