Holiday ideas for August please

Dear all
For the last few years OH and I have been camping around France but this year perhaps fancy a bit more of a beachy/non driving holiday!
The only problem is it has to be the first 2 weeks of August due to his work. Europe e.g. Greece or Turkey I think it just too hot that time of year.
We have been looking at Mexico as appears cooler. Fancy Asia but worried about it being monsoon season.
We are quite flexible in terms of doing a long haul flight but wouldn't want more than 12 hours. Looking for somewhere we can just flop on a beach if we want but also to have the option of exploring and seeing some of the country's culture.
Price wise - would go for £1000-£1500 each for the right place but ideally would like to spend a bit less than this.
Any ideas therefore gratefully received.
