Posting/Packing a Heavy Item

HI

I was wanting to sell a heavy item on Ebay. It's a metal car steering wheel lock as seen below:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thatcham-Approved-disklok-anti-theft-lock-to-cover-entire-steering-wheel-small-/111260075093?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item19e79e0455

Not only is it heavy, its quite an unconventional shape. Could anyone recommend the best postal service for this type of item? Would it be Royal Mail.

Also, for packing I just planned to cover it in brown paper, then put loads of packing tape round it, would this be the best option?

Many Thanks

Only if you wanted it damaged in transit.

I'd probably look at something like Collect+, Parcel Monkey etc rather than Royal Mail as I imagine it'd need to go Parcelforce anyway which would be costly.

In terms of packaging, you'd be best bubble wrapping the whole thing securely and then cutting a box down around it. I don't think that brown paper would be enough unfortunately.

I would bubble wrap in many layers then wrap with a plastic mailer - but fairly tightly so the lock cannot move inside the packing.

Check weight and size before listing then you can put an appropriate P&P. I use collect plus.

(I have sent a metal canal lock key like this.)

    Vote for Collect+ here
    or try Interparcel / Parcel2Go

Should get mine on eBay, as I have 2 x old Yellow ones from a Local Police free offer back in the late 1990's
