Google Chrome .... adverts all over the place

I have started using the browser Google Chrome, which seems pretty good except for the very annoying adverts that keep popping up

These appear as full width banner adds along the bottom, or almost full height adds on either side.

How do I stop these please ?

Just downloaded it about a minute ago and now see a wee red badge on the top right with 3 on it .... I assume that means it has already blocked 3 adverts.

I see I can hide these numbers, but just as a matter of interest I'll leave them showing form the next hour or so.

Check the same sites you're seeing the adverts on with another browser and if they're only showing in Chrome, then it may be worth checking your extensions as one of them may be generating the adverts:

Setting your router to use OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/opendns-home/) also kills loads of ads and other spaming sites.
