DLA Advice

Options
Hi everybody still filling in the DLA form and have come across another question which I don't relay no weather I need to answer it or not.

My child is 4 years and 9 months old and will turn 5 on 23 April 2014
and the the current DLA claim also expires on 23 April 2014. In the claim pack page 13 under the heading Mobility Needs its says.

Questions 25 to 31 are about the physical difficulties has walking. This is for children age 3 and over.

Questions 32 34 are about the guidance and supervision they need when walking outdoors most of the time. This is for children age 5 and over.

I am going to send the claim pack off second week of February 2014 when DLA receive it there will still be 2 months and 2 weeks before my child turns 5 So should I be answering the questions for the 5 and over child or not.

Comments

  • Fill in the guidance and supervision question. The new award will begin when he's 5

If he also has physical difficulties walking, fill in the other question too.

My son is autistic and I have filled in questions with the same info if I wasn't sure where it should go.

Always ensure you put in too much rather than too little
  • My sons dla runs out in April as he turns 5 too. I've just filled it all in best I can and they will decide if he is able to get mobility payments or not

  • Hi have been going through lots of forums on lots different sites and come across something else which left me thinking.

You cannot claim the mobility part of DLA before your child reaches the age of three (for the higher rate) or five (for the lower rate).

I've filled it in anyway and they can decide if he gets it.

My daughter's DLA (MRC) was awarded 6 weeks before her 3rd birthday - her HRM started from her birthday, I just filled in the whole form. When it came to her brother, we applied earlier for him and so he has had mid rate care since just before he was 2, 6 months before he turned 3 I got a form in the post to fill in regarding mobility. So fill it in if it is applicable and if awarded it will start from 5th birthday.
