I'm facing a possible six month ban for trotting up to 12 points. Is it worth paying a solicitor (looks like about £500) or shall I try and do it myself?

I personally would be prepared to pay for legal assistance if there was a reasonable chance of saving my license.
Looks like you were galloping up to 12 points rather than trotting though.:)0 -

Hello CBM.
I've been there, in October 2003 I went unrepresented and took the full whack of a £200 fine and a six-month ban for precisely that offending nature, totting.
At the time I had no children but I was driving as part of my security job, the magistrate did not look upon my need for continued usage of a motor as economic hardship and thereby proceeded with the judgement. 12 points is the maximum a driver can have and be allowed to drive if permitted by the court.
So in your case it will depend precisely how much you need the ability to drive and what disruption a ban would cause not so much you but dependents if there are any. At the time I could have appointed a solicitor at the cost of £250 but he admitted there was very little that could have been done.
I wish you luck and I am sorry if this post doesn't lift your spirit. I'll be hoping you retain your licence.0 -
Take the ban & use it as a lesson to stop driving like a pleb.Never Knowingly Understood.
