Daughters birthday party

Planning for daughters (6th) birthday party, and it's hitting me how expensive anything is! Can figure out how to get it under £100!

She wants to invite the whole class, I think we could curb that if it was something a little special, anyone got any ideas?

  • I doubt you will be able to a whole class for under £100 x

I would limit it to 10 or 12 children, maybe invite a couple more as it is probably that one or two won't be able to come. Some ideas that my children have enjoyed are:

Pizza hut 'make your own pizza party' - £6.99 a head, although there isn't loads of entertainment so maybe better for older children

Tenpin bowling parties - these are more expensive, from £12.50 a head but I paid with my Tesco clubcard vouchers, which made it more affordable for us

Playcentres - these can be pretty expensive, we did have a good party at one near us for £6.50 a head, it was called Fuzzy Ed's funhouse, not sure how many of these there are, but they were well organised and even included a party bag

Our village hall costs £30 all night. Can't say fairer than that.
  • Local church hall or community hall is about £25 in my area. Hot dogs for all costs under a tenner. Ice-cream, sauce and sprinkles another £10. Then do old-fashioned party games. Musical chairs, musical bumps, pass the parcel, sleeping lion, musical statues, chinese whispers, best dancer etc and some arts and crafts (perhaps recycling theme). Sorted.

Better still ask if there's another child with a birthday around same time and double up. Cheaper and you get to share the workload.

Kids love 'traditional' parties because they are so new to them. Better still if you have the space do it at home. My third child's best ever party was at home. He loved it and I could set up hours in advance so I wasn't stressed and rushed. Marvellous.

    Good luck
  • You could do a big hall with the whole class for under £100 imo.

    £25/30 for the hall
£4 for 2 x big jugs from pound shop plus 2 flavours of diluting juice.
£2 for a big packet of balloons (they enjoy ones they can bat about as must as helium imo)
£5 for paper bowls and cups plus plastic spoons
£10 for fairy cakes (if you want an activity you can let them ice them themselves)
£10 for 'prizes' - multipacks from poundshop.

Leaves you money to do sandwiches or crisps. At my DD's party we just did a few big bowls of jelly - the kids were delighted with it.

Other than that all you need is a music player for the 'disco' and to know a few party games (always plan a few extra than you think you'll have time for) and an adult confident enough to lead them.

hire a hall or community center - do all the food yourselves - and don't go overboard! and hire a bouncy castle or entertainer . yes you CAN do it for under a hundred!
  • My dd was 7 today, don't know if this is area specific but our council gives all children a leisure card which allows free swimming so for her party we took 9 children and it only cost £15 for the 3 adults and we followed it with a trip to burger king where printed internet vouchers meant we all ate for about £30, so total cost of less than £50.

I agree with the poster above who asked if there was anyone you can share with OP. I think I've done shared parties pretty much ever year with my two (although they're in classes of over 30 with birthdays between March and August and September and February respectively, so there's always someone to share with). DD turns 11 in April and as it's her last year in primary we're in the early stages of planning a big party for both classes which looks like being between 5 girls with birthdays close to each other therefore should end up being pretty reasonable whatever we decide to do.

Failing that, a local hall, bouncy castle and doing the food yourself (hot dogs?) should bring it under the £100 mark. Also, depending on when your DD's birthday is, if it's near(ish) to Easter then instead of party bags you can get a good deal on a batch of Easter eggs and give those instead.

    Jx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
  • Blimey when ours were little it was a party at home - games etc for about 8 children or a treat with three friends as that filled the car up. Ours are grown up now but no-one held parties for the whole class - sounds very exhausting!

I did one for my son who was 6 last year at our local leisure centre and he invited his whole class.

It was probably one of the most stressful things I have ever done....

Waiting for the replies and half the parents not bothering but needed numbers
    Doing the food myself
Sorting party bags ...then taking spares just in case someone else turned up ( lucky I did as 2 extra children arrived )
On the day playing referee as children fallout with each other and parents just sit chatting whilst their child is crying:eek:

By the end of it I was shattered but my son had a great time

However this year I have said he can go out for the day somewhere special with a few friends instead :D

    Good luck OP
