  • Katiehound, I applaud your charity but did you know that the appeal also put bibles in the shoeboxes and insists they are read? I have a friend who used to donate till she discovered this.

I know the bibles are put in- it says so on their website. This is what it says:
"They may also invite children receiving shoeboxes to join a discipleship course called The Greatest Journey. This is a “no strings attached” programme and participation is with the consent of their parent or guardian." Please note this is what they say- who knows what exactly happens!

I have only ever contributed the odd few items and the local schools do hundreds in this area.

I also said in my post "or similar organisations"

These boxes are either for a whole family or for the elderly. Boxes go to eastern europe- hats, mitts, gloves, scarves all wanted- as well as other things. Presumably people can contact the charity with lots of knitted items to be distributed amongst the boxes.
Just read the diary of the trip taking boxes to Romania- have a look yourself---- what poverty, and the joy on people's faces receiving what we would consider mundane things.
