Diva Premium 7 tablet - not charging

Hi folks,
Can anyone help me?

My sister's tablet is not charging, therefore she can't switch it on. It is a Diva premium 7 (bought in Bulgaria).
I took it to a local repair shop and was going to cost over £100 to fix

Now I have replaced charging ports on laptops but these were just a case of attaching new port to ribbon connector. Does replacing a micro USB port involve soldering? I don't have a soldering iron and no idea how to do it even if I did.

If it is fixable by me does anyone know what type/brand micro USB port I would need? I can't find out who makes Diva tablets. I don't think it can be charged any other way???

If I can't fix it fair enough it is obviously not an expensive tablet, will get her another cheapish tablet, she does not want or need expensive one. No offence but please don't tell me it is a cheap rubbish tablet, I know it isnt an ipad but it is sufficient for my sister's needs.

If anyone can help me that would be great :j

I have a Blackberry Playbook which at first would not charge using the charger cable. I had bought 3 of them in an auction and the other two were ok.

Fortunately, because I had something to compare the duff one with, I noticed that the little flat tongue inside the socket on the Playbook had been pushed UP towards the screen - obviously from someone pushing the plug into the socket the wrong way round. (The plug and socket were pretty small).

Once I noticed it, all I had to do was push the tongue back DOWN away from the screen again (when switched OFF) and it immediately began to work & charge normally.

With the fault, it WOULD work but would NOT recharge, so just kept running down the battery.

Might be worth a look inside your socket perhaps?

    Hi gyro,
Thanks for reply. I have had a look at the socket and I can't see anything wrong with the pins etc. The only thing I can see is the socket seems to be a little bit in from the plastic surround.
I have also tried various chargers to see if it was the chargers problem but it is not charging with any.
It is very annoying as I am on a mission to fix it now but anything I see on internet about diva tablets are in Bulgarian and I can't seem to find any replacement parts

Have you tested the output from the charger to make sure it IS working?

    EDIT

Cancel that. Just seen that you've tried various chargers.

Maybe you could open it up and see if you can find any fuse or damage inside. I believe for these tightly fitting things like the playbook screen and surround, you can use a guitar plectrum or similar to slip the press-fit catches around the edges.

YouTube probably have videos of the process.

Ah yes I will have a look on you tube to see if I can find out what I should be looking at inside.
I fear it may be a soldering new part on which I just can't do :(

Well, if it IS a USB 2.0 Micro B type socket then there is definitely a small flat tongue inside it which 'should' be closer to one side than the other. In the case of my Playbook it's closer to the screen side than the back.

    Check the plug type here

Check that little tongue very carefully as it could well be the problem, and it's an easy fix just using a toothpick or a tiny screwdriver (maybe with a bit of sellotape over the blade for insulation.) You can see it should be a little offset by looking at the plug as well.

It IS quite easy to push into the wrong position if you put the plug in the wrong way round.

This is the main cause of tablet failures in my experience, micro usb sockets are just too small and feeble and the leverage of the charger connector and cable pull the connector off the board (or at least one of the connections) all too easily. Dead tablet.

Its probably surface mount soldered to the board and would require someone with the right equipment to even attempt to reattach it, not any normal soldering iron. This type of soldering equipment is more common these days, people that modify games consoles or hot up car engine computers often have some.

Are you absolutely sure there isn't another charging socket? a small hole labelled DC 5V? Some tablets have a 2.5mm DC socket that also charges. (I always pick tablets that have these such as some Ainol or Ployer ones for this reason)

If it does then you usually need quite a long DC plug to fit and I have found these really good.

Otherwise it may well be beyond economic repair unfortunately.

I agree with that. That's why I've bought a Blackberry charging pod for my Playbook from Amazon - it saves any wear and tear on the socket and charges much quicker at a higher voltage. About £12 if I remember right?

Sillygoose eh? - I suspect not.

    Hi,
Cheers for the replies and thoughts. I haven't had a chance to have another look at the tablet. I think the micro USB port is soldered on so that is a no go. I will have a look at the tongue in the port.

I know it has a headphone socket and a memory card slot but can't think of anything else.

Will report back my findings after looking at it again.

If this is a 7" Google PLay branded Tablet, then they're currently selling for around £40. That's what I paid for one for my son. It won't charge via USB - it HAS to charge via the seperate charger.

Are you sure you're using the correct charger for it?

Whatever happens, don't pay more than £40 to try and fix it, since that'll get you a new one. However, I notice Samsung galaxy tabs are now cheap - and good quality. If I actually needed to browse the internet on one, They're what I'd get.
