I'm assuming you're not in work.
Housing benefit/LHA(if you are in local authority accomodation) may be payable, as may council tax support - to cover most of the council tax and rent.

As may carers allowance - for you taking care of your husband >35 hours a week.

(taking care of can include watching over as well as active personal care)
In some cases, he may also be able to claim CA for looking after you.
Alternatively - he may claim contribution based ESA (assuming that he's been in work for the last two complete tax years).

You have not mentioned what you are claiming other than DLA.
A claim for you for ESA may now be appropriate as well.
  • bascally can I claim income support as a couple and get my DLA still . also what would I lose on DLA or what would my partner have to live on im just a bit confused what i'm in entitled too
  • he has worked for this company for 35 years lol

How will she be able to claim carers allowance for caring for her husband? She is the one in reciept of DLA not her husband.

Your DLA is not affected by anything whatsoever.

Your partner may be able to claim IS on grounds of caring responsibilities - for you - however - a new claim on the basis of his disability would be for ESA.

This is a complex area - and it sounds like there are numerous potential combination of benefits that can be claimed.

Which one will be best for you will depend on all the circumstances.

As one combination, for example - he would be entitled to ESA - contributory. (assuming he passes the tests)

This would be around 100 pounds a week.
Added on top of this would be an ESA-income related amount.
    This would be about:
40 pounds a week because you are a couple.
33 pounds a week carer premium - if he is able to do any sort of care 35 hours a week - this would include merely watching over you.
On top of this would be your DLA.

It may work out better for you to make a claim for ESA, in your own right, as this may mean you get an 'enhanced disability' premium.

This is unfortunately a complex area, and there are several possible ways to claim that are appropriate for your circumstances but need working out which one will be best for you.

Is it at all possible for you to get to an appointment at a local CAB, so they can do a 'better off' calculation - and advise you of the best way to go about things?
