Algarve Portugal Summer School holiday dates 2014

we are considering going on holiday to the the Lagos/Luz area of the Algarve in mid to late June. We are aware the Portugese Summer school holiday dates start a lot earlier than the UK. Is anybody aware of the summer school holiday dates in Portugal and does it mean it gets quite crowded with local children in late June

We went to Monte Gordo at the Eastern end of The Algarve 3 years ago in 2 and 3 weeks in June. The first week was very quiet but the second week (about 16th June) changed completely and the resort got extremely crowded with Portugese people. I don't know if it was the school holidays but it certainly changed the complex of our holiday. I do not know if the same would apply to the western end of the Algarve. We went to Lagos in early June some years ago and it was fairly peaceful and lovely. Hopefully someone with some local knowledge may be able to assist you about the school holidays in Portugal.

The summer school holidays in Portugal start anytime from early June until early July depending on ages ,area etc. It should not affect the hotels but everywhere will get progressively more busy from mid June onwards. This is especially the case with the restaurants, but as the Portugese each later you can avoid any crowds by eating earlier. Interestingly the summer bus timetable in the Lagos area I believe does not commence until 1st July.
