Breakages deposit weekend away

Hi,
I have booked some barns and a function room for a family weekend away and party for 60th birthday celebrations. The owner is asking for a £500 breakages deposit to be paid on the first day either by cash or bank transfer, which will be given back on the final day of stay.
Our stay ends on a Monday but I will be returning on the Sunday due to work commitments (other people are staying on).
I am uneasy about giving this amount of money of in cash, especially since I will also not be there to inspect any 'damage' that they may claim has been made.
Any ideas what I can suggest?
Thanks

If that is their standard terms and conditions, and you made the booking whilst knowing this, then all you can do is ask one of the other guests who is staying over to the Monday to do the checking for you.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
