Barclays Current Account for online banking
Comments

I never needed a Barclays current account ... the combination of Monthly Saver and e-Savings was sufficient. It wasn't a problem getting the money back at the end of the term either (although I seem to remember that I had to go into a branch to get them to transfer the money to another bank).
If I were you, I'd try with the e-Saver, and if they've changed anything that means that's no longer possible (unlikely), you can then go and open a current account. But no point opening a current account when you're unlikely to need it (it's one of the worst current accounts on the market - you're not likely to have any other use for it).0 -
Thanks rb10. The terms and conditions online suggest that withdrawals can only be made by transferring to another Barclays account or using the ATM machine but I could try popping into the branch and see if they can make the transfer when the time comes.0

Quick update - after nearly 3 weeks of chasing Barclays up about my e-saver application and being passed from pillar to post, they've finally told me that I can't have the e-saver because I don't have a Barclays current account and therefore not eligible for online banking. So ColdIron was right.
But I have e-mailed them about the wording on their website as it states "You don't have to be a Barclays customer to apply" when it should really say "You need to hold a Barclays current account".
I've decided not to apply for the current account now as the last few weeks of Barclays "customer service" has put me right off the bank!0 -
Why cut off your nose to spite your face - do an online application just for a standard current account - it will cost you nothing and then there is no excuse for them NOT to open the savings accounts YOU want.LookingToTheFuture wrote: »Quick update - after nearly 3 weeks of chasing Barclays up about my e-saver application and being passed from pillar to post, they've finally told me that I can't have the e-saver because I don't have a Barclays current account and therefore not eligible for online banking. You have to learn to play the system LOL0 -
Agree with jones, it's easy to be discouraged but I wouldn't give up
Their customer service isn't tip top but the online banking is and once you have it setup you'll rarely need to phone them (on the free 0800 400 100 number). They seem to be one of the few remaining banks that use offshore CS though you can get through to a UK person during our office hours. Branches are OK
Once you get it setup you'll be happy you did0 -

I know you're right but it has been such a hassle chasing them up that I do wonder whether it's all worth it. I've opened accounts with Santander and Lloyds recently and they were so easy and straightforward in comparison to Barclays.0
