Focus- temp loss power ?

Anyone help on this. Mark II Focus 1.8TDCI, 50,000 miles. Going up steep long hill, felt as if I was in too high gear, tried to drop down, gradual loss power, dropped right down to 1st, crawled at 5 mph. Stopped car, re started- no problems, pulled away no problem- any ideas??cost??
Thanks

Flashing glowplug light or engine light on?

You need to read the fault codes stored in the ECU.

As above fuel filters tend to get missed off a service unless you ask them to change it. How long ago was it changed?

I had the same problem, it was the fuel filter. Try not to rev it too much, and don't let the engine strain, basically avoid any situations where the car will require more fuel.

When this happens, if you shift to neutral/de-clutch do the revs drop to 0? Mine did.

As for time/cost, my garage did it the same day for cheap (under £100 definitely).

    HTH :).
  • unless it's the sparkies, certain focusses of mk2 type had a screen wash line which intelligently was placed directly over the sparkies and dripped down. had they accepted this and recalled it the result would have been worldwide panic so they kept quiet about it, and way to fix it is seal that line off and wd40 the sparkies. certainly in your story , loss of power fits with the sparkies misfiring , nothing like water to make that happen fast

I'd say at least check sparkies, whether you have a focus with above flaw or not

You may need to explain what sparkies are and where abouts you they can find them on a DIESEL engined Focus.
