Hi,
I am in need of some consumer help. Post Christmas I ventured online, buying some items in the online sales....thrilled at getting a number of clothes from Debenhams (suits for work), I ordered and paid for my items.
I have only received 2 items, 1 jacket which is perfect and 1 item which has been returned as it didn't fit. I am still waiting for 5 other items, jackets, skirts and blouses. I enquiried today about the delay and was informed the items were despatched to the courier, and had been returned to the Debenhams depot as they were damaged, I have been refunded but cannot re order as they are out of stock.
Question......I now have lost out to other online stores with sale items and cannot replace the order. I have been offered a 10% future discount. Haven't I entered into a legal contract when I purchased and paid for the items? Am I entitled to further compensation? Any help or advice very gratefully received. To buy new suits will cost me £100's....many thanks Danielle

Whether or not a contract formed will depend on what you agreed with debenhams, but most online contracts form when the items are dispatched so its likely that there is indeed a contract.
If there is a contract and they breached it then you are entitled to claim your losses. So at a minimum you get your money back (which I'm assuming they did since you didn't complain about that), and if you can find the same clothes elsewhere but only at a greater price then you may be able to claim the price difference.
You're only entitled to your actual losses though, not unspecified compensation.
Whether it works be worth the hassle of trying for more than just a refund I have no idea.
And I'm not a lawyer (or solicitor), just so you know

Thanks Mike, appreciate your advice, very frustrating as I ordered some great bargains.0

If they are out of stock there's nothing they can do to replace them.
You losses are hard to quantify in terms of missing out other sales etc. I would just chalk it up to bad luck.0
