Fake Britain Mattress Recall

I purchased one of the highly flammable mattresses from Argos and have been in contact with the seller and offered a refund/exchange, but this was purchased with a bed frame so was subject to a reduction in price. Original price for the mattress was £199.99 and with the reduction it ended up being £169.99. Now for a replacement they have said I can have up to the value of £169.99 but if the faulty mattress was not for sale I would have had an alternative compliant mattress at the time of purchase and received the discount. For example if you buy one meal and get one free; both £10 and one was faulty in some way you would not be offered a £5 meal from the menu as a replacement?

You could try for loss of bargain but it's unlikely to be worth it. You could certainly ask them for a15% discount for the hassle .

However, You paid £169, you are due £169 back.

Can they ask you for the extra £30 when it goes back up?

Do you still have the receipt?

Was it bought as a single item (one Argos code) consisting of a bed base and mattress? In this case, you should be able to return both for a full refund as it was one transaction.

If two codes, where was the discount applied? Was it applied to the mattress, or to the combined purchase total? (ie does the receipt say the mattress was 199.99 and then 30.00 is knocked the total, or does it just say 169.99 for the mattress?)

IF the mattress is listed as £169.99, you'll not get any more than that back. If it says £199.99 by it, with a later discount for buying the two together, I'd suggest they take the whole package back as you only bought the package because of that discount.
