Have the big supermarkets had their day ???

I don't think we will every going to see small supermarkets, Don't stock every flavour of things and just 3 dried herbs and spices.
There will be one of the supermarket chain's convenience stores opening about half a mile from me next month. For those people that live around the area, it will be fab for them as there is no shop for a mile. Like my friend. If she needs to buy something like milk, after work, she has to get the bus to the shops and either get the bus back home or walk the half a mile.
Fortunately, the other shops in the suburb are closer to me than the conv storeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Me and OH tend to go shopping every 6 t 8 weeks to do a big shop - tinned items, things like tea bags, coffee etc, cat food so we want a big supermarket with lots of choice.
Inbetween we will get things like fruit and veg at the local market or a farm shop. If we need bread or anything we usually go either to the local bakers or the Co-op. The Co-op prices are reasonable and they have lots of offers and reduced items. They nearly always have bread very cheap and we buy it and put it in the freezer.
I don't like the Tesco Express stores which we have loads of in our area. They stock very little and are much more expensive. All they are trying to do is ruin local businesses.
Both me and my OH dislike Tesco intensely. We live almost on top of a very large one and NEVER shop there. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
There are a couple of streets of independent shops about a mile from the town centre. Tesco want to put an Express store there and no-one wants it. The houses around the area have notices on their windows with 'no to Tesco'. Even an independent Spanish/Greek restaurant has a large banner with this messageThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I wonder if there would be any objections to a Little Waitrose?0 -
I used todo main shop in tesco but now buy bread, milk, sauces, juice and a few other bits from Iceland, toiletries, herbs, tins, biscuits, crisps from home bargains, fresh meat from lidl and aldi, and anything else I need from tesco so that isn't a great deal, it's usually things the other shops don't sell...0
