Further thoughts, (guesses but things to ask)
There may be some difference in the way the pensions are handled if you are an employee or an ex employee, this needs checking and how it works.
The retirement scheme may have different notice to the employment contract.
Some employers(eg NHS) are very careful about employees retiring/taking pensions and wanting to continue working.
As soon as you hit state pension age, you no longer have to pay NI so need to get the certificate for the employer.0 -
Get your mum to call HRS Direct. They'll be able to give definitive advice to her.0

Hi everyone, thanks for the great help and replies, I've found out that she is retiring and apparently that's why she has to give 6 months notice, I'm seeing her tomorrow and will find out more.0
