OLD STYLE DAILY - 18th January 2014 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday January 17th. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning nmlc and all to follow.
Its my weekend at work this week so up early with the dog, she has had her jab and breakfast and is now back to bed ! (lucky thing)
I shall leave here in 1/2 hour or so and not back till 5ish, so OH and DD can be in charge of housework / dinner. OH is hopefully going to fit the hanging rails in the wardrobes, so that on Monday I can start to wash things (to freshen then up) and hang them, I am so excited to be able to hang clothes !!
I have just finished a book called 'The book thief' it was absolutely brilliant and very moving, I would recommend it to anyone, going to watch the film now, I always like to read the book first if possible so that I can get a picture in my head.
Pizza for dinner with garlic bread and salad.
Have good days all xxx0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Now getting light, still wet underfoot, although not raining at the moment. Wash x1 now ready to go into TD.
DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early. DS2 now up and had a cuppa and brekkie.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk, I had salmon parcel, jacket potato, green beans and salad.
Did get the essentials done yesterday, but still have the CBA mood hanging over me, have been like it all week and to be honest haven't utilised this week off at all - had planned to get some big declutter jobs done, but haven't been able to get motivated to do so. Although I have got a lot of admin/account type jobs done and have a very clear and up to date assessment of where we are financially and also a plan as to where I want us to be by 1st April. I have gone through the accounts steadily and checked it all so that's a job very well done and most of the shifting of monies etc is nearly complete, just really need to get to the end of this month and then we'll start to see some positive changes, as there's normally payments need to be made towards the end of the month that now are paid up/very nearly paid up so payments are not happening - it will all make a difference with the bank balance and overdraft situation. Seems really sad but I'm looking forward to getting these bits sorted and then getting other loose ends tied up and paid up - then will start saving to get a lump sum to start overpaying on the mortgage, up until now that hasn't been possible.
Yesterday I decided that I need to get back on the Grocery challenge so I'm just doing it myself - have decided on a budget and am recording all spends in my desk diary - this really helped last time as I'm really bad for "top up" shops which invariably cost £15-£20 when all that was actually needed was bread and milk or if I had been a bit inventive I could have substituted something from within the stores.
So, today's plans are as follows -
Check bank accounts etc - done
Check euro lottery ticket - done
Do daily free games - done
Washing from machine - into Td -
1 x load in to WM -
Cooking/baking need some treats for the tins -
Collect DH's dress suit from dry cleaners -
Get showered, dressed and eat brekkie -
Have a great Saturday everyone x
Need to crack on now.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Hope you are all well.
Yesterday I felt very sorry for myself as my pain is not under control at the moment. Even got as far as considering whether or not I should continue working. After speaking with gp and a rejig of meds I am now determined to get it sorted. Yes may take time but I can do this and continue in the job I love.
So taking things at a slow pace today but determined to get out and visit my family at my aunts for at least an hour for tea and cakes
Molly - hope the doggy is on the mend x
Julie67 - please take care after your fall x
Jools27 - hoping your GuAG finds it's way back soon x
Busiscoming2 - hope the cold and earache are getting better, if not maybe a trip to doc needed x
Hope I haven't missed anyone. Have a great day everyone and ((((hugs)))) to anyone wh needs one

Good Morning All
NMLC - I know that cba feeling very well, think its my SAD making things worse - roll on Spring
Been busy last couple of days but not actually got much donetoday's plans are go into town to open new bank account. Also next week I am planning to open a credit union savings account - been meaning to do it for ages but their opening times are quite restricted.
Once home think will have an housework afternoon. We are at a friends daughters birthday party in kent tonight. She has CFS to every birthday they have a massive party. Wont be staying long but looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen for a while.
All football has been cancelled this weekend which is no surprise as we had a lot of rain yesterday and the roads were a nightmare.
Going to get another coffee now then get my bum into the shower.
Have a great Saturdayx0 -

Have good days all xxx
I have also read that book and really enjoyed it (if that's the right way to put it). I do get disappointed watching films of books though, it's never how I want it to be!!
Well, that's me back from my 'activity' week - wet, muddy and tired. 33 eleven year olds who were very eager and generally very well behaved, just a couple of blips. Sleep is a little hard to come by as they like to stay up late having a carry on but it's all part of the fun for them.
Washing is on but I am running out of drying space inside and not sure what the weather's like yet. DD has stripped her bed so that is on the airers, she's gone to Newcastle for the weekend with friends.
Welcome to newbies, HH - pleased to hear the babies are coming along nicely.
Julie - Be careful! Don't try to do too much but I know it must be very frustrating.
have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Good Morning all,up with the milkman this morning ,dunno why I didn't go to sleep very early as I was reading but woke early and thought why just lie here and veg,get up and do something,so I did and so far my kitchen had had a good clean and tidy,my washing machine is on and I have allready stripped and changed the bed .It was nice to see it getting light at 7.30 for a change so its slowly getting nearer to spring (hopefully). Not too cold either .
Just hear the sad news on the wireless that they have found the little boys body in Fife, poor little chap,no doubt it will all come out over the next few days, but I said a small prayer for him.
Just sorting out the finances for the rest of the month, and things are looking OK at the moment .Lots of NSDs which help and over half my monthly food budget still nestling in my food purse.Definitely shopping from my cupboards this month.
DGS Danny said last night I should buy an external hard drive to store precious bits on,so I shall be sourcing that today. He recommended one which won't break the bank so I am looking into seeing what sort of price I can get it for.
I have some baking to do for DD later as her cake tin for the boys is getting a bit low and my sis-in-law from Faversham is coming tomorrow for coffee and cake so I am going to make a lemon drizzle cake for her.I also fancy making a sultana and cherry cake as well for eldest DD as I have lots of driefd fruit in the cupboard to use up.
So a busy day ahead I think
Have a good one what ever you are doing
Take care

Morning.
More rain. Again. Getting a bit bored of it now.
Plans today are to continue painting. The walls this time.
There is a mountain of ironing but I am hoping Hubby will take care of that (he's very domesticated in that sense).
Pizza for tea.
Sorry not much OS:o
Hugs and spoons all round xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Morning all
Chucking it down here today & very chilly. I made a cuppa fed the fish & went back to bed for a couple of hours.
It's that time of year again & we have a spare room full of seed potatoes chitting, hubby got them yesterday, he loves his garden.
I shall spend a couple of hours doing housework today, a couple of hours reorganising the spare room & hopefully a couple of hours knitting, we were invited to hubby's greatniece's 1st bday party this afternoon, but we've made our excuses & won't be going, when we take into consideration the petrol, the bar bill & the gift, it's too much. Who the hell needs a bar at a 1 year olds party? It's always a problem when we go out with his family, there is always a bar involved & the rest of his family have short arms & long pockets, we went to the child's christening, it was decided that we would buy drinks for the table we were sat at, hubby bought the 1st round, £58 & then everybody started squabbling about who's turn it was & no more rounds were bought! And breath.
Time I got the WM & DW going.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning again
Just heard the awful news that the little boy's body has been found - such a waste x
JackieO - I seem to have a huge store of dried fruit and cherries, your sultana and cherry cake sounds lovely - could you post the recipe please?
I've decided once I've been to collect DH's suit from the dry cleaners, I will return home and do some baking/cooking - I'll be making mince pies, tea loaf and a victoria sponge - at least that will fill the tins for a while!
Keep safe, well and warm x

Morning everyone,
Molly, Hilstep Many hugs.
Hester Good luck with your hours reduction.
LW Glad that you have a furry visitor.
I have not posted for ages as I have been really busy at work but I have been reading.
I have noticed lots of newbies so welcome:hello: to all of you.
Today I need to fill up the fridge and cupboards with food again and I am meeting a friend for a coffee that I haven't seen for ages. Apart from that there will be more of the never ending tidying and cleaning.
It isn't actually raining this morning so I might have a look round the garden to see what needs doing.
nmlc I have just heard about the little boy too, it is terrible.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0
