Is this tablet lower spec to what I ordered?

Hi all,
I recently purchased a tablet from amazon which claimed these specs;
7" quad core
8gb storage
1gb ram.
I've just ran a benchmark and it shows this -

Am I correct in thinking the spec I ordered is not what I received?
Thanks,
Neil

Some storage reserved/used for Android OS and some memory reserved for the graphics?0

Was hoping to see totals that match my specs?
Surely the totals would take into account what the system uses?
Shouldn't Available say 1gb ram and 8gb HDD?0 -

They don't, the total onboard storage on my 16GB device shows as 12GB total storage with 9GB available. Usually storage amounts have larger differences so the next model now from yours would likely have 4GB fitted and show 3 or so GB available.

No. You bought a device with 1gb RAM and 8gb HDD as stated on the box.
The fact that some of the space is needed to run the tablet does not detract from the stated spec.
You will find that all manufacturers use this same convention.0 -
Run memory and CPU tests to make sure those figures are genuine and not faked.
Similar to the fake mp3/mp4 players that are sold and 8gb yet can have 4gb or less of storage. Faked and if you use their software to install your music and video's you wont notice and it shrinks and compresses them to fit in half the space they should take.
Try copying a single large already compressed file to the memory and see if it fails.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I don't recognise the tool, but while a Samsung/Google Nexus 5 has a spec of "2GB of RAM", "dumpsys meminfo" via the developer interface says:
Total RAM: 1899564 kB Free RAM: 1278637 kB (102961 cached pss + 508024 cached + 667652 free) Used RAM: 696398 kB (548814 used pss + 106392 buffers + 916 shmem + 40276 slab) Lost RAM: -75471 kB Tuning: 192 (large 512), oom 122880 kB, restore limit 40960 kB (high-end-gfx)
That's a discrepancy of 197588kB (depending on your definition of "k") which, as others have posted, is probably down to graphics memory. So losing 300M for a tablet doesn't seem totally implausible (although it does seem quite high).
My device has 32GB of storage, and as I'm only using it for development it has nothing "extra" installed on it other than a couple of my own applications which total less than 1GB including all their support files. The GUI says there is 26.11GB available, and "dumpsys devicestoragemonitor" agrees:DUMP OF SERVICE devicestoragemonitor: Current DeviceStorageMonitor state: mFreeMem=26.11GB mTotalMemory=26.76GB mFreeMemAfterLastCacheClear=26.11GB mLastReportedFreeMem=26.11GB mLastReportedFreeMemTime=-10h16m56s466ms mLowMemFlag=false mMemFullFlag=false mClearSucceeded=false mClearingCache=false mMemLowThreshold=500MB mMemFullThreshold=1.00MB mMemCacheStartTrimThreshold=375MB mMemCacheTrimToThreshold=750MB
So losing 2.5GB to OS overhead seems very plausible: I'm about 7GB down!0
