in Credit cards
So I got my Amex card today, APR showing as 18.9% so not sure what the 24% was all about when I applied. Anyway can someone tell me what all this Foursquare thing is about. I registered using the iphone app but when I tried to register my card it said its not for the UK issued cards. I can't find anything on the Amex website and I did try searching on here but could find the answers, perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys and gals

Yeah, four square confused me too. I registered my card through the Amex website after activating it, but in the four square app it shows no credit cards registered (but registers Amex under a list of services allowed to use the app).
Did you register your card through the Amex website?Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
I'm not sure what I've done!! I Google Amex foursquare which took me to a URL of something like sync.americanexpress.co.uk. I downloaded the app but when trying to register my card told me it wasn't for the UK issued cards? I'm confused.com0

Try signing up for four square through the Amex website and then linking your card. It's on the Amex website - I'm on an ipad but I'll do my best to get a link.
EDIT: you had the right address. Sync.american.......
Click the blue button "connect to four square" and fill in the rest. As I say it doesn't show up in the app but as far as I know it's connected.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
Thanks Maestro think I've done it now. How do you know which places give you discount/cashback do you just check in everywhere and see what it says?0

Go to the four square app and look up places that have offers/deals (it's in orange). It just so happens that there's s0d all round here doing Amex deals, hope you have better luck than me :rotfl:Oh, you wee bazza!0

Is it the specials in orange? It lists some places but doesn't tell you what you get?0

Amex foursquare was pretty good in 2012/ early 2013 but I've not seen much lately. Amex are still pushing the relationship so hopefully they're not dead yet.
Amex also regularly run cash back promotions themselves. To view what's on offer, log into your card account and look over on the right hand side of the page. You should see a box called 'Your Offers' and if you click on that it will bring up a list of what's available. Because yours is a new account you might not have any but check.
You have to 'load' each offer to your card by clicking the button and once loaded it will move to the 'saved offers' section. After that you don't have to do anything. Just spend the required amount in the relevant retailer and you will get a statement credit in a few days. These can be quite good if you shop in the places listed - They usually range between 10-30% cash back if you only spend the minimum qualifying amount. At the moment I have Tesco, Selfridges, World Duty Free, Financial Times, Space NK and Costco.
Other than that there are various deals available if you click on 'Rewards' at the top of the age and go to 'American Express Selects'. Here you can find stuff like discount codes for online shopping/hotels and stuff like reduced subscriptions for Love Film, Netflix, Audible etc.
Finally, ensure that you change your marketing preferences so that you receive emails/postal offers. You can find this in 'Profile and Preferences' at the top of the account home page.
Amex run so many promotions and offers that it can be a bit tricky to keep track of them all! Everything changes regularly so worth checking every couple of weeks or so. I don't care what anyone says but Amex run, by far, the best promotions of any card issuer in the UK. Lots of people moan about the annual fees that some of the cards attract but I have never made a loss once you take into account all the offers etc.0 -
Thanks Lazyloki. I did check the first bit you mentioned but no offers as yet. I'll have a good old nosey tomorrow, hitting the sack now.... its been a long day lol.
