EDF energy bill
Hi, I have always paid by monthly direct debit for dual fuel. I have left EDF for Npower ,they now say I owe £371 electricity. How is this possible? It seems they have only charged me for gas over the last 2 years despite them sending me letters back in 2011 saying I would get 1 bill for both.any suggestions?

Well did your bill actually show electricity use? A dual fuel bill would include a separate section for gas and electricity.

As said above - have you never checked your bills to see what's being used and what's being paid for or made sure that the estimated readings correspond with your own meter readings
It takes quite a time and several bills to rack up an arrears of £371 on electricity if you heat and have hot water on by gas.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Is it not down to EDF to tell me how much I should pay monthly, they control the DD amounts taken. Surely they review bills annually and adjust payments accordingly.0

Hmmm - Can't understand why you failed to notice the lack of Elec Billing on the bills you did have
However, if EDF did indeed fail to bill you for Elec for 2 years, the Late Billing Agreement should apply - This means that EDF cannot bill you for any power supplied prior to the 12 months before they notified you of the error, so it would seem that in appx. terms you don't owe £350 built up over 2 years, but £175 for one year
Get onto EDF and claim relief under the 12 month billing rule0 -

You could say that, but it leaves them in control and you end up where you are now. Do you not check bills, or even your bank account just to make sure that everything is running smoothly and that you aren't being overcharged, undercharged or that someone isn't have a dip into your bank account/credit card etc.
You can't just blame someone else for your lack of attention you have to take some responsibility as well.
The majority of problems people are having with the utility companies are because they haven't taken the trouble to check their bills, meters and direct debits and then wonder why they get a big bill that they can't pay or conversely end up over paying by silly amounts. Keeping a track of it yourself means you have control, not them.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
