Electricity SMART Meters

I am in the process of switching to Spark Energy who have changed my electricity tariff to Economy 7 even though I use only 20% night time. I asked them to put me on standard day tariff but they insist that because I have economy 7 meter, I am stuck with it.

On checking I realised that my analogue meter was changed by e.on to a SMART METER. How do I resolve this issue with Spark Energy, my new energy supplier? Please help.
Thank you.

Don't know, what possessed you to move to Spark?

As as far as I can see( on U Switch) they are more expensive than the standard variable EON tarriff
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • So far I have nt seen any smart meters ( in my area) which work on eco 7. Are you sure the smart is configured to show the three eco 7 rates, day, night and total ?

No supplier is yet insstallng SMETS compliant meters, they are all early trial models that will need upgrading (possibly only firmware) to be complaint.

Are you sure it is a smart meter? The old dial meters have been replaced by digital ones -but they aren't smart meters! I had a digital meter put in last November ...and now BG are pushing me to have it changed to a Smart one!
  • Hi All
Yes, I have checked this and find Spark Energy is the Cheapest in my area - according to MSE EnergyChecker service.

Good news is after persevering Spark Energy has replaced my dual tariff meter with a single tariff meter 'as a gesture of goodwill' and this was only after being with them for two weeks.

The old meter was NOT a smart meter; apologies for my ignorance.

    Thanks for your interest.
