entering a motorway from a slip road, embarrasing moment: Was I an idiot?

So don't drive on roads with slip roads until you have experience using them.
Spot the problem here?
And no, some motorway driving isn't mandated on lessons so many many people are passing tests without having done any.
Even if some had been done, any decent driver knows learning is only begining when you have passed your test.
There are slip roads on roads other than motorways. Single qmd dusl carriageways have them too. They are mandated on driving lessons, so the OP shouldnt have been nearly so clueless! I did suggest motorway lessons might help.
If he/ she thinks checking a mirror is sufficient for joining a motorway, then they are probably never checking their blind spot when they drive elsewhere. That makes them a liability and one that's safer off the road until they're confident will all kinds of driving.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
some of the slip roads to A38 are appalling - and then on top of that people slow down in fear making a potential deathtrap a very realistic deathtrap - I tend to slow down even more behind these afraid people so I get my own decent shot at speeding up and joining the carriageway i.e. not having someone elses fear mean that I have it all to do myself to avoid being lorry food
worse thing happened to me on a slip road wasn't that though, I sped up had a clean line of sight, and this absolutely evil lorry tried to duel me and push me off the slip road into the grass. he had plenty of space to move but decided I was not joining the A38 if he could help it
eventually slammed brakes on and then joined the road in 1st gear because of this psycho. thankfully all behind me got into the right hand lane as I limped up to speed in the left.
moral is I guess, some people have far too much time on their hands and like to play fairly sick games0 -
No I wouldn't say you were a pleb. It happens to us all at some point.
I live near a motorway and it's happened to me a few times in the last few years even when I've been matching their speed there simply isn't a gap to get into.
Oh and yes I've also had to stop at the end of the slip road before (you can't always do that if you have cars behind).. or carry on to the hardshoulder and just keep the right hand indicator flashing to show the CCTV I'm trying lol.0
