didn't receive delivery, but courier says signed for?!

I ordered some boots online last week. Just checked the tracking info as nothing's arrived, only to find the courier's website (Hermes) saying they were delivered and signed for on wednesday. Needless to say this is total fiction. My neighbours haven't signed for the package either and being a shoebox, it's not that small. IF the driver just dumped it on the doorstep, round here (London) would have been nicked for sure.
What are my rights? I paid by credit card online and I have emailed the seller to say that it didn't arrive. I'm pretty upset as they weren't cheap.

You inform the vendor and the vendor will query it with hermes.
It isnt uncommon for these "signed for" goods to suddenly be found to still be on the van or in the depot and the driver "accidently" miss marked it as signed.
If they have actually had someone sign for it they will confirm where it was delivered and normally send you a copy of the image for you to check.0
