Notice of Intended Prosecution just before renewal

Our motor policies are due for renewal in a few days time, and my wife has just received a Notice of Intended Prosecution relating to allegedly doing 35 mph past a camera. She was the driver at the time of the alleged offence.

I know that normally one wouldn't tell insurers until actually getting points, but in the run up to renewal is there a need to tell them (or other insurers we might get quotes from) about the NIP?

Some insurers do ask if you have received any NIPs.

So read the convictions question carefully before answering.

Regarding your current (ending) policy, read up what they say about notifying material changes and whether they want to know about NIP's prior to renewal.
  • The question normally includes pending prosecutions and so yes it should be declared but ultimately read the questions asked and automatically let your current insurers now

If the offence was in England or Wales, then a speed awareness course may be offered in lieu of points. So unless you are insured with one of the Admiral group companies, doing a SAC will have no effect and will not need to be declared.

The thread is discussing "pending prosecutions".

If all you have is a NIP, and are asked about any pending prosecutions then they do need to be declared even if you intend to plead not guilty.

We are indeed with Admiral. What difference does that make?

Admiral ask whether you've ever done a SAC - and therefore the suspicion / assumption is that they load the premium.
