Where to start? Barclays

Hi
I have recently gone through some papers and finally gone through my Barclays Graduate Additions paperwork.
I have been a little scared to look into all this, and thought i really should do something about it.
I left University in 2005, already in my overdraft (at least £1000) for my student account with barclays and I was moved over to the graduate scheme.
Now i didn't have a job at the time, and looking back i was signed up for monthly fee of £7.00.
Further on, i was being charged the overdraft interest and then the charges as well.
The only way i got out of the account, was my mum paying over £2000 to close the account.
Where do i start?
Any help would be amazing thank you.

I'm not an expert but my 2p worth.
I'm assuming the £7 fee was paid to negate any charges?
I would read the T and Cs' of the fee paying account to double check any rules on charging particularly about non-response to any letters they send you.
Have they written over the last few years ? Wrong address ?
If the fee = no charges and they have continued to take the fee then they are, in effect, honouring that contract and owe you all the charges.
Had they stopped the fee, having written, and then started charges then its thin ice. To me it appears it should be one or the other.
Don't give up though. Barclays are the worst people I have EVER dealt with and over the last 3 years I have had great delight in getting over £13000 back from them and some of my stories would make your hair stand on end.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I found the original book that came with the account and all the 'benefits' that came with the account were useless to me at the time I.e car and house insurance.
I can remember the meeting and i was told that as I was a graduate I needed to be on a graduate account- there must of been other accounts I could of had that didn't involve a fee.
Looking at the statements received interest kicked in when I went over a set amount. However, another advisor had told me to open another account for my wages, but no order was set up to pay off the debit. So basically it was just fees and interest that was the activity on the account.
I have called them and lodged a complaint, saying that the benefits of the account were mis sold, and she has also made note of the interest as well.
Be interesting to see what happens.0
