A local firm with a good reputation are quoting £850 for a new UPVC backdoor - is this fair?

That's expensive.
Just had a quote for a new Upvc door leading to the garage and that was £440. Same company fitted my front door and rear doors for the same price a year ago.0 -
thanks, do you know how much of the £440 was the cost of the door and how much was fitting? I can see a upvc backdoor in screwfix for £300 and it has good reviews. I'm willing to stretch for a better door, but don't want to be ripped off on labour.0

Sorry I don't know the breakdown of costs.
Where are you based as the company I used are east mids. Try looking at Crown Windows (John Cox) or TruFrame - basically they're the same company.0 -
I'm down in hampshire. I wonder if it's worth having a crack at installing the door myself - I guess the hard bit is getting the frame right0

You can buy some doors complete with the frame. These cost £200-350ish but then its down to you to fit / get fitted.0

to give yourself an idea of the cost run the measurements through http://windowsanddoors.co.uk/0

You dont have to accept the first quote... we had our front door done a couple of years ago...the first price quoted was £900 , I told him he must be joking second price under £700 with skylight.....BOI Credit Card = Was £3500.00 Now £0.00
GE Capital Store Card= Was £1800.00 Now £0.00
GE Capital Store Card = Was 1300.00 Now £0.00
Credit Union Savings Now £200.00 :T0 -
That's higher than safestyle quoted me......so must be expensive!! You should be looking for around £500 IMO.0

A small local company should be around the £400-£600 mark0
