Aqua Advance

Hello, you lovely people :D

I've had my Capital One Secured Card now for a year and 3 months, while I like Capital One, I'm a little bit annoyed that they doubled my limit but didn't even bother to return my deposit :(

Anyway! I've just been accepted for the Aqua Advance credit card at the exact same (shocking) Apr (pay off in full each month). Would there be any negative impact on my file if I close my Capital One card? - Or should I keep it open and spend £10 - £15 a month in it to keep it active? Or, stay as I am but put little amount on the Aqua? After three years the Aqua reduces it's APR to 19.9%

Any thoughts welcome :D

It's always advisable to have at least 2 cards. And also good to have an older account on there if everything else is shiny and new.

    I'd keep it ticking over.

Thanks zx81, just as I thought. Better to have two than one which is new :)

With Aqua I started with a £250 limit last January - its now £1800. I never pay in full just nearly full - I have a friend who pays in full and er limit hasn't risen.

Thanks samtoby, I've always paid my Cap 1 in full each month as I use it for my travel expenses with work, and they doubled the limit on my 1 year anniversary.

But it is interesting what you say, maybe they like to earn a bit of interest and hope you spend more than you can afford ;):D

By paying "nearly in full" you're being charged interest on the whole whack. Just saying.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

  • I have a Capital One Progress card and an Aqua Advance.

Aqua are a great company IMO. I started at £250, and my credit limit is now £1900. Yes the APR is quite high (think it was around 32%), but I wouldn't be able to get a main-stream card as I'm a student. Also, their customer service is great, and as long as you use the card appropriately, they often give you limit increases.

One thing I've found with Aqua however is that they block card transactions when using your card abroad way too much. They also block your card if you make a large transaction.

CapitalOne on the other hand have never blocked my card abroad, nor for a large transaction.

I tend to use CapitalOne if I'm going to carry a balance (20% APR) or I go abroad, and Aqua for everything else.
