Problem with PrePayment meter

Anyone else had this problem with your prepayment meter for your gas?

This morning I checked to see how much credit I have left for my gas but nothing is coming on the screen, its just blank

I put my British gas card in the meter but nothing is happening on the screen, what do you think is causing this?

How the hell can I check what credit I have left?

This is the 1st time this has happened. :(

If the screen won't turn on it's possible that the battery has begun to run out.
Has there been a code in the corner of the screen recently? (e.g. B1)

Do you still have gas working in the house? Can you remember how much you had last time you saw the meter?

Give the team a call on 0800 048 0303 or 0330 100 0303 (better for mobiles) and they'll be able to book in a visit.
If you still have gas they'll prioritise people who have no gas ahead of you, btu they'll still book an appointment.

Yeah the screen won't turn on at all and yes I still get hot water and heating which is strange since the meter is not coming on. :D

I will give the team a call then.

I have phoned British Gas and they have booked appointment for 4th of February, bloody hell why so long

He said that if I didn't have any gas they would come out 4 hours, it seems the battery has gone and he ordered another gas card for me.

I don't know how much credit is on the meter. :(

I'm not sure, but I suspect that if the meter has stopped working it can't disconnect you when you run out of credit.

It should have recorded your credit and consumption up until it stopped working, and if it isn't recording your consumption or decreasing your credit now, you'll be getting free gas for 2 weeks. :money:

It will stop the gas flowing through when you run out of money on the meter. As Swanjon says the people off supply get a 4 hour emergency appointment which you do not need at the moment. This means they can book you in for any date and then move it forward to a 4 hour timeslot when needed. The call centre is open 24/7.

Not always Joyful, sometimes it stops with valve open and they get free gas. They never bother ringing up when that happens

More likely though that he will run out of gas as hundreds do every day at this time of year.

I can't believe I still have heating and hot water

Last time I checked I was in my emergency credit and I only had £2.70 as I remember now, anyway I had heating on everyday since Friday and I still can't believe its hasn't run out.

Maybe I have free heating and hot water until 4th of February? :D:)

Well, the meter should start beeping when it's on its emergency credit of five pounds. Just shove some credit on anyway. You must know how much you use weekly/fortnightly etc, so put some on accordingly. Stick £20-30 on: that should last you til the engineer comes. And you'd know if the gas ran out, because you'd have no heating/hot water. Simples. :)

If no credit required, and meter off but still on gas to me would say that the valves have jammed them selves open when the battery has failed.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
