Deafult and charge reclaim

I've had a bank account with a well known high street bank for 5 years. I was given a VISA debit card and had a £1500 overdraft. The account was credited with my monthly wage which was in excess of £1600 per month. Out of the blue the bank withdrew my Visa Debit card with no explanation.
I chased the bank regarding this and they said that it was due to me owing the bank money from 6 years ago.....something I deny as I never been with the bank before in mylife.
They refused to give me back the Visa card facility which was important to me.
After a month of this I decided to open an account with anothe rbank who were happy to provide me with the facility I wanted. I wrote to my original bank stating what I was doinga nd tha I would be paying my wages into the new account until the problem was sorted.
The bank have since asked for the overdraft to be paid back in full, something I was in no position to do as had told them. They have now marked my account as in default which is a bit annoying as I was hoping to get a mortgage later on this year.
I have not dealt with this for a fe wmonths now as I keep planning to try and reclaim my charges back, but kept being put off by what I was reading in the press with some people not egtting anything back at all.
I've now decided to just go for it. Is there anything I can do during the charge reclaim that will help me get rid of teh default they've put on the account. My argument is that the amount being claimed is incorrect as a majority of it will be charges that I intend to get back.
Anyone got any help with this please?
Thanks. Hope the ramble is logical!

Ask them to provide details on the account that was in default 6 years ago and while they are at it get them to send you your statements for the past 5 years (both bank and visa) and claim your charges back!
I bet they have got you confused with another person of a similar name!
Also get in touch with the credit agencies and and get a note put on your credit file that say you are in dispute of the default notices applied to you by the bank in question!Got It & Spent It :dance:IKEA CARD = £120 charges = £175 received (146%)MARBLES = £450 charges = £370 received (82%)I.F. = £494 charges = £494 received (100%)CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)On Hold :mad:A+L = £722 charges (target = 147%)BARCLAYS = £1,405 charges (target = 128%)BARCLAYS = £175 charges (target = 140%)ABBEY = £3,220 charges (target = 148%)0 -
Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry, I should have stated that the default is against the overdraft that they withdrew when I moved my wages to another account and not for the reason they took away the VISA facility.
They have ignored my requests for information regarding the reason for card facility withdrawl.
My main aim is to get the default removed using the charges claim as leverage.
