My sisters looking at canceling her holiday to centre parts because of these stupid new fines. She phoned and asked how much to change to school holidays and it's hundreds of pounds she doesn't have. She has 3 school age children all at the same primary. I've told her to phone in and say they are sick, she says it will look too dodgy plus her youngest is in reception so will clearly walk back in and say they've been on holiday and she'll end up getting fined which she also couldn't afford, seriously though, I know the school will know but surely they couldn't prove it? Like they do have to have proof don't they? They can't access her bank account etc to check! I said I'd just do it and say they were sick. Thoughts?

My thoughts are that an education is far more important than getting a holiday on the cheap.

The message she is giving the kids is that education doesn't matter.

You could always 'fine' the teachers the next time they strike and use the money to pay for holidays out of term time!

Well try telling that to striking teachers as well!

I just find it somewhat hypocritical when teachers take the moral high ground on kids losing education because of holidays, but are quite prepared to compromise the very same kids education for their own needs.

We never had any issues when my children were at school when we took them travelling during term time. We always asked the school to provide work/tasks for the duration of the trip.

I just think that they learn and gain more life experiences if they are able to travel when they are young - probably much more than being stuck in a classroom for two weeks!

Oh the irony (or more likely the trolling) March 2011 the OP was claiming she was currently employed as a teacher. Hmmmm

Quote (thread closed) Hi, I am currently a teacher, 24 weeks pregnant and my school is going through a staffing review.

    Seems like the OP is

    1 Trolling
2 A qualified teacher with zero regard for education and other teachers.... and no idea what procedures are in schools and no teacher friends/ex colleagues to ask
    3 Something else

The teachers are fined when they strike - they lose a days' pay.

And these fines have not been imposed by the teachers - and the monies raised do not go into the schools!

I am amazed one of the political parties such as UKIP are not talking about this ever increasing criminalisation of the public by authority.
School teachers fining people, bin men fining people, private security firms can fine people in Leeds ! yes a trial to be extended UK wide in April.
Council officers "people who work for the council" are to be given the power to "fine" people.

The right to trial for these crimes is removed, they are criminalising the public to make easy money.

People like authority, they respect what they fear, but like feeding a monster, the admiration soon stops when it is your turn for a go.
You are now a criminal, because a school teacher says so !

Where is this going, is this how the bankers losses and bonuses are to be paid back in to the taxation pot, by fining working people left right and centre.

Where is the freedom and where are UKIP on this.

Back to justice, if someone has broken a Law, they go to court before a Jury if they chose, not in front of a school teacher, a bin man, the bloke who sweeps litter up, a thick no neck bouncer walking the streets as a security guard.

When will people wake up and where is the party addressing this criminalisation of freedom itself.
    Be happy...;)

No - they are not 'fined' - losing pay due to withdrawing your labour is self inflicted. Fines are imposed by enforcing bodies.

ah - I had intended to type 'fined'

as in "The teachers are 'fined' when they strike".
