I own a ground floor flat and moved in 2 years ago. It is a reverse freehold and there is an maisonette above. There is no maintenance scheme set up and in the past we pay our own way until now. There is a leak in the roof and the lease says that we are jointly responsible but this has been going on for sometime so there is internal damage in their maisonette and they now want me to pay half the costs. Does anyone know if I would be responsible for the internal damage also if my contract only says I'm responsible for the roof, supporting structures and chimney. The original leak started on the roof but this has been left so long it has left a lot of damage and the insurance company will not pay.
We need to set up a maintenance scheme for us both to join as there is nothing in place at the moment and need to find a solicitor to get up that we both pay a monthly amount to go in the pot. Can you advise? Or is a best to open a joint bank account?
